DMH Weekly Update from Commissioner Patrick Flood–September 14, 2012

Yesterday over 350 people gathered in Killington to learn about and discuss both new initiatives to address the crisis, but also related problems that need attention.  Almost all the responses we received were positive.  Attendees were pleased with the opportunity to get together and learn.  I think it was important for all the different partners who are struggling in this crisis to hear about others’ challenges as well as everything that is being done.  I feel that we are starting to turn the corner.  The Morrisville renovations are underway; we are close to closing the unit at theSpringfieldprison; we got encouraging news today about the siting of the secure residential facility; the new hospital planning is on schedule and the entire designated agency and peer network continues to unfold.  Seeing and talking to so many people yesterday, it was clear how the commitment and dedication of Vermonters across the state working together has sustained us this far and together we will begin to end this crisis soon. Thanks to everyone.   ~ Patrick
